Happy June 30th fellow readers! I’m really excited about this weekend because my son and I are going camping with some good friends and the weather is looking spectacular!
There’s so many things about camping that I look forward to. I love the sound of a crackling fire, the smell of roasted hot dogs, the stars that light up the night sky and the sound of laughter echoing through the trees. I love the time when I get to sit down with good friends, enjoy a beer or two, chat a little, laugh a lot and play a few card games.
A weekend such as this totally recharges me, especially after an exhausting week for me. It was relatively busy at work, but what really drained me was the amount of exercise I did which included: swimming, a bike ride, four straight days of intense boot camp and two evenings playing basketball with my son. On top of that, I spent much of my spare time running errands and buying food for camping this weekend. Quite frankly, I’m feeling utterly exhausted!
What I’ve learned is that life is most enjoyable when it’s well balanced. Much like eating your veggies for dinner, we need to find a good balance in everything we do so that we don’t drain ourselves from doing too much of one thing. I know people who work constantly and are reading and sending emails in the evening and during weekends, or exercise enthusiasts who spend 7 days a week at the gym (plus additional exercise outside of that), or people who stay at home watching TV religiously.
But if we spend so much time married to our work, or in front of the TV set, I think we miss out on doing other things we might enjoy.
I hope during this long weekend you’ll get a chance to do something you normally don’t get around doing (For example: visiting family and friends, cooking, watching a movie, gardening, going for a hike, reading, trying a new restaurant or taking a nap). Save the chores and boring routine stuff until next week…don’t you think you deserve a break and can use some time to balance yourself out and recharge?
Alas, I think it’s time for me to take a breather from typing now (partly because my mind is drifting into a slumber). I think I’ll enjoy the rest of my afternoon by having a cup of tea and getting ready to head out to camp.
Well, Happy Canada Day to my poutine-loving peeps and a Happy 4th of July to all my awesome neighbors south of the border!
Cheers everyone and enjoy your weekend.
